We use two different chat platforms, you can choose based on your preference.

We use Matrix, a federated open source chat platform for our chat. (Registration is handled by a third-party, not us), it works in the browser.

We use SimpleX Chat, a very private chat app, better than Matrix, but it requires installation, does not work in the browser.
